2021 Chateau Batailley, Pauillac, Bordeaux

HoldWell stockedWilliam Kelley 90-92/100

This was picked as late as possible to maximise maturity. Frédéric Castéja feels this is one of his best-ever vintages at Château Batailley – and there is plenty of it. Seventy-five percent of the crop is in the grand vin; the 60-hectare vineyard yielded 50 hl/ha. There is lots of density, with strong tannins and some nicely ripe and dark succulent fruit. The palate is complete and concentrated with good length; it is reassuringly substantial in the familiar Batailley way. Drink 2027-2042.
