he estate occupies a plateau in the west of the appellation, inland of Ch. Latour and behind the Chx. Pichons. Once a much larger estate, its modern history began in 1942 when it was divided into two separate properties: Chx. Batailley and Haut Batailley, both keeping their Fifth Growth classification, and Batailley keeping the Château building. Once simply considered the source of dependable, if somewhat uninspiring luncheon claret, the introduction of a second wine, Lions de Batailley in 2014, helped bolster ongoing quality improvements.
