2016 Ch. d'Armailhac, Pauillac
This has a glorious nose of red fruit, cassis and kirsch liqueur, which gives way to a palate with bright acidity and great, ripe tannins. The wine is long and excellent on the finish. Outstanding. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 62%, Merlot 28%, Cabernet Franc 8% and Petit Verdot 2%.
Critics
Very dark, blackish purple. Perfumed and rather seductive. Pretty chunky and solid. Tannins more in evidence than in some. A long-distance runner. Very juicy.

Such richness through the palate, with deep crushed blackberry notes alongside soft coffee bean. I get hints of Petit Mouton here. You don't feel the tannins because the grain is so fine.

The 2016 d'Armailhac is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. It needs a little coaxing before it bursts forth with baked blackberries, boysenberry preserves and warm cassis.

This is really tannic and muscular for d'Armailhac. Perhaps the most powerful ever. Full and chewy yet balanced and polished. Very, very impressive. Greatest ever?
